Recently I’ve been looking at urban agriculture. In a sectional drawing of an urban block, I placed some trees and shrubbery within the enclosure of the block and on the terraces created through stacking different floorplates to build the overall form of the block. With the pressures on food production becoming greater and the emphasis on organic food increasing, urban agriculture, or urban farming, could not only be a way of building community within the city, but also a positive contribution to food supply. There’s a great (illustrated!) overview of urban farming on the National Geographic website.
